For the unversed, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli made history on Wednesday by becoming the first player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to score 8,000 runs.

However, despite his feat, what was trending on Twitter/X was Haarcb to mock the team after they were defeated by Rajasthan in IPL 2024’s eliminator. Haarcb is a combination of the Hindi word Haar which means defeat and the IPL team RCB to mock the side for never winning the IPL.

Kohli Becomes First Player to Reach the Milestone

Kohli reached this milestone during RCB’s IPL 2024 Eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Ahmedabad. He needed just 29 runs to achieve the feat.

Leading the batting charts in IPL 2024, Orange Cap holder Kohli became the first player to reach 8,000 runs in the world’s richest T20 league.

Kohli also Crossed the 700-run Mark in IPL 2024

On the verge of capping off his second-best season as a pure batter, Kohli has crossed the 700-run mark in IPL 2024. He is the only player to have surpassed the 700-run milestone this season.

Achieving 8,000 runs in his 244th innings for RCB, the 35-year-old has amassed eight centuries and 35 half-centuries in his illustrious career.

Earlier, Kohli equaled Chris Gayle’s record by crossing the 700-run mark. Gayle had scored over 700 runs twice for RCB in 2012 and 2013, while Kohli first reached this landmark in 2016 and repeated the feat in 2024.

Kohli’s Performance in IPL 2024

Despite his excellent form, Kohli was halted by his former teammate, Yuzvendra Chahal, in the eighth over of the RCB innings. Kohli’s attempt to slog-sweep Chahal resulted in his dismissal for 33 runs off 24 deliveries.

He has amassed 741 runs in 15 games for RCB, maintaining a strike rate of 154.69 and averaging over 60. Kohli has recorded five half-centuries and one century in the 2024 season.

He leads the Orange Cap standings, followed by Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has scored 583 runs in 14 games.

No other player has surpassed the 7,000-run mark in the IPL. Last year, Kohli became the first to reach 7,000 runs during a match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi.

In the all-time run-scorers list, Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan is second with 6,769 runs, followed by former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma with 6,628 runs.

At 35 years old, Kohli currently holds the Orange Cap for this year’s IPL, having scored 738 runs from 15 times. Kohli was eventually dismissed for 33 by Yuzvendra Chahal, leaving RCB at 56/2 in the eighth over.
