At least 15 people were killed when New Orleans attacker Shamsud Din Jabbar crashed his truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street over the New Year. He opened fire on the police officers following the atrocity and was killed in the short-lived gunfight. Turo also rented him a car.

Jabbar was stationed in Afghanistan from February 2009 to February 2010 and spent nearly eight years in the US Army. After leaving active duty in January 2015, he switched to the Army Reserve, and in July 2020, he exited the reserves as a staff sergeant.
