Meanwhile, Gerald Coetzee broke the record for the fastest delivery of the season by hitting Riyan Parag with a thunderbolt that clocked in at 157.4 kph while the Rajasthan Royals were comfortably defeating the Mumbai Indians. Coetzee who is 6 feet 3 inches tall is known to comfortably bowl in the 145 kmph range.
After being put to the cleaners by Riyan Parag, Coetzee did not have a nice time either. After hitting seven boundaries, Parag smashed six of them, however, he enters the record books having delivered the second-fastest delivery in the history of the competition and the quickest delivery of the IPL 2024.
With that delivery, Coetzee broke the previous record set by Mayank Yadav of the Lucknow Super Giants, who had made a quick and furious IPL debut against Punjab Kings to pick up three wickets. Coetzee bowled the third delivery of the 16th over, off which Parag hit the winning boundary in chase of 126.
At the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, March 30, Mayank, in his debut IPL encounter, routinely reached speeds of over 150 kmph against the Punjab Kings. He surpassed Nandre Burger of the Rajasthan Royals’ previous record pace of 155.8 kmph. In his second IPL encounter, he beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru, reaching a personal best speed of 156.7 kmph.
