The Fantasy Premier League has updated its account and brought a new exciting features called the Assistant Manager Chip, which was previously teased as the Mystery Chip with it set to be in play starting gameweek 24 come January 2025.

This new addition to the FPL will allow its managers to include real-life Premiere League bosses in their squads. But the question that arises is “how does the Assistant Manager Chip works,” so, let’s find out together!

What is the Assistant Manager Chip in FPL 2024/25, meaning, price, points scoring system explained, rules and when to use it

For the curious, the Assistant Manager Chip aka the Mystery Chip enables 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League  managers to score points based on the actual performance of the Premier League teams, led by their real-life managers.

At first, the FPL manager need to activate the chip as it doesn’t require a free transfer. However, swapping managers during the active period of chip counts as a transfer.

Let us remind you, following the activation of the chip, the gameweek rules will apply. It means only one chip can be used per gameweek. For instance, if one manager activates the Assistant Manager chip in gameweek 24, they can’t use another chip until gameweek 27.

If your selected manager leaves their club, you’ll continue to score points based on that club’s performance.

Scoring System

Your chosen manager earns points based on their team’s results and achievements.

If your team wins, you’ll get 6 points. If your team draws, you’ll receive 3 points and if your team scored a goal, you will get 1 point per goal. The table bonus will let you earn extra points when facing teams ranked at least five places higher:

For instance, 10 additional points for a win (16 total), and 5 extra points for a draw (8 total). However, you can’t captain your Assistant Manager, so strategic selection is key.

Double Gameweeks offer another opportunity. During these weeks, teams play twice, allowing managers to score from up to four matches over three Gameweeks.

The Assistant Manager chip falls within the three-players-per-club quota and if you already own Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) and you bring in Arne Slot, you would only have room for one more Liverpool asset for those three Gameweeks.

It has the potential to be the most powerful chip, with over 30 expected points, and therefore it needs careful consideration and you could use it in conjunction with a Double Gameweek, perhaps at the end of the season when results and motivations can be very different for clubs up and down the table, or even shortly after it becomes available in Gameweek 24, when league position is not a true reflection of ability, so the table bonus can be taken advantage of.

You can also use it in gameweeks 36-38 to really target some upsets and maximise the potential of the chip.

You will need to pay for your Assistant Manager out of your existing budget, finding the funds by making compromises in your playing squad.

Managers are priced between £0.5m and £1.5m. These costs are deducted from your existing budget, so you may need to adjust your squad to accommodate them.
