Ronnie Hillman, a standout in American football, tragically passed away from cancer at age 31.
The Long Beach, California-born running back has previously suited up for the Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, and Denver Broncos. He was chosen by the Denver Broncos in the 2012 NFL Draft, and in 2016 he helped them win Super Bowl 50.

On Thursday, December 22, Ronnie’s family posted on his Instagram account to share the devastating news of his passing.
They claimed that Ronnie “transitioned today in the company of his family and close friends in a quiet and peaceful way.”
They added,
We as the family, appreciate the prayers and kind words that have already been expressed.
They published a post earlier that day in which they disclosed his cancer diagnosis and stated that his therapy had failed.

Ronnie Hillman Had Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC)
Ronnie Hillman had a rare kind of kidney cancer called renal medullary carcinoma (RMC). Four months after receiving a diagnosis of the uncommon disease in August 2022, he tragically went away on December 21.
According to Rare Diseases, young individuals of African origin are disproportionately affected by RMC because they have sickle cell features that might result in sickling of the red blood cells.
Symptoms Of Renal Medullary Carcinoma
- Macroscopically visible (gross) hematuria
- Abdominal or back/flank pain
- Significant weight loss
- Palpable renal mass or enlarged lymph nodes
What Is Its Diagnosis?
When people with sickle cell trait exhibit the typical symptoms, a diagnosis of renal medullary carcinoma is frequently established. This is followed by radiographic imaging examinations, usually an abdominal/pelvic CT scan, and finally a surgical biopsy and pathological analysis of the tumor.
Radiographic examination results can show a mass deep inside the kidney but are often non-specific. Studies on histopathology reveal a specific pattern that allows for differentiation from other kidney cancers.
