Some athletes have done well on at least two sports professionally, know about the the names who played multiple sports
There’s Michael Jordan who had a baseball career aside from basketball which he was mainly known for. Bo Jackson also became famous for being great in two sports which are football and baseball. They simply show how athletes can be flexible when it comes to the sports they play.
However, not everyone decides to professionally get involved in two or more sports. The truth is that the pressure of having a single sports career is already tough and heavy. And so, even if we see so much potential on one athlete who can do so much better on a different sport, it’s unlikely that we’ll see them play something else.
What Would Happen If Your Favorite Athletes Played Multiple Sports
Still, it wouldn’t hurt to imagine how well they could perform if they are in a different field. Here are some of the popular athletes today that we think would do amazing on a sport that they’re not playing professionally.
Rai Benjamin
Track athlete Rai Benjamin was able to finish a 400-meter hurdle race in just 46.17 seconds during the Tokyo Olympics. With that speed, it will be interesting to see him play cricket and bet on him and his team on 10CRIC’s IPL Satta app. Most of the IPL teams will want him to be a fielder. Fielders need to be agile and capable of moving extremely quickly and this is something that may come easy from Benjamin.
Aside from his speed, Rai is also the son of the former West Indies fast bowler Winston Benjamin. Usually, in cases like this, people would expect him to follow in his father’s footsteps. However, Winston said in an interview that Rai’s cricket skills were “crappy”. He thought his son was just really more graceful and joyful when running.
Still, Winston would wonder why Rai didn’t pursue cricket. In another interview with Winston, he expressed how he would also question why his son chose a different sport. He said, “I never know why he chose track and not cricket. All I knew is I would have backed him in whatever he chose.”
Rai himself admitted that he’s not a cricket person but he does enjoy the sport. In particular, he found Brian Lara, a former West Indies batsman, hypnotic to watch. While he and his father won’t pick cricket as his sport, we think otherwise. With that speed and enough training, Rai could also be built for cricket. Still, we’re extremely happy that he found his sport and that he did win a medal and broke a world record.
LeBron James
NBA superstar LeBron James is not only good at basketball. In high school, he also played football and was also good at it. He did play for the Ohio High School football all-state team in 2001. That could prove that he has it in him to be a great football athlete.
This is why on a basketball court, you would notice how he would wrap the ball as a football player would. He also has the size, speed, and strength that he can utilize on a football field. Fans would also actually talk about the possibility of him playing in the NFL. It’s hard not to associate him with this sport when he talked about considering it.
Last year, James spoke about how he was offered a chance to play with both the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks during the lockout. Talking to MNF Manning Broadcast, James said, “Jerry Jones offered me a contract. Also, Pete Carroll did as well in Seattle during our lockout time.”
The basketball star also added, “It got my blood flowing again. [It] got my mind racing again, thinking about the game of football. We were able to get a deal done in the NBA and I was back on the court in no time. But, I thought about it. I still got the jerseys that Jerry and Pete sent me.”
Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United FC’s Cristiano Ronaldo also has the potential of being a great athlete in a different sport. In particular, many would speculate that he’d be a great basketball player because he has a lighting pace and an astonishing vertical leap that is even higher than an average NBA player.
In an El Clasico match, Ronaldo was able to take a jump of 2 ft. 8 to take a header that he was able to score a goal. He’s also capable of reaching heights of 44cm in the air from a standing start and 78cm with a run-up. These numbers are higher than what an average NBA player can do. Overall, his body type would also fit many sports including basketball.
While many fans would talk about how he would do great in basketball, Ronaldo seems to have a different choice if he’s going to play anything else aside from football. IN an interview with DAZN, Ronaldo spoke about this and said, “Playing football is my passion but I prefer watching other sports on TV.
“Between watching a football match or a boxing or UFC fight, I choose boxing or UFC. When I was at Manchester United, a coach boxed with me. I think practicing boxing is useful for football because it sharpens your senses and you learn to move.”
However, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Ronaldo play a different sport professionally. He is very passionate about football. He is determined to stay in football even if some critics would say he’s starting to slow down because of his age.
Ronaldo spoke about this too and said, “At 33 you start to think your legs are going. I want to stay in the sport, in football. People will look at me and say: ‘Cristiano was an incredible player but now he’s slow.’ I don’t want that. You can change a lot about your body, but the problem isn’t that. It depends on your mindset, your motivation, and your experience, which I think is the most complex thing.
“In sport, you can gain maturity. Look at (Roger) Federer in tennis. He’s 37 or 38 years old and he’s still at his peak, and there are some in boxing too.”
