Will Andrew Wiggins play again this season as Golden State Warriors are uncertain about the player as he continues to suffer from an unknown personal problem which could be family matters

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is doubtful if Andrew Wiggins will play again this season due to Wiggins’ unspecified personal issue keeping him away from the defending NBA champions for the previous month.

On Saturday, before the team defeated the Milwaukee Bucks in overtime, Kerr said, as per cbssports.com:

I think that’s the hope [that he’ll return], but really there’s nothing to report on.”

He further said that while the player attends to a problem that is substantially more important than a game, the Warriors are letting him his privacy. Although it would be nice for the team if he could return if not, that is the circumstance. The team would “handle it accordingly.”

Wiggins’ extended absence indicates the issue is obviously serious enough that the Warriors have kept their knowledge to themselves. Wiggins remains away from the team and out of the lineup because of an ongoing personal family matter and the Warriors initially listed Wiggins as out for the Feb. 14 game against the Clippers, citing personal reasons. Though Steve Kerr confirmed that they expected him back for their first game after the All-Star break on Feb. 23, Wiggins missed the game.

Both Kerr and Poole spoke to reporters on Monday and opened up on how the team is managing his absence.

The Warriors’ general manager, Bob Myers, said earlier this month that the team will let Wiggins decide whether or not to make any public statements following his comeback.

“I don’t think that’s what anybody is planning for. But we’ll leave that in its own place,” Myers said. “That’s not the expectation. I think what you’re asking is — could he remain out for a long, long time? I don’t think that’s happening.

“I’m going to leave that alone. Hopefully when he gets back, whatever words he would like to say on it, which I don’t think will be much — it’s his private life — he will do.”

Wiggins will have the support of his teammates and the organisation for as long he is sidelined.

Meanwhile, Stephen Curry also provided support for his teammate. As per cbssports.com, the player said:

Friend to friend, teammate to teammate, sending him support.”

He further said that despite his extended absence, the circumstance is required despite being difficult. Basketball doesn’t compare to life. That is the only thing that matters, whatever he and his family are going through.

I’m sure he will. That’s how he’s built in terms of being available.”

Curry believes that the player misses “the vibe” and being with his teammates, he also said that the squad misses the player.

Wiggins last played on February 13 in the team’s victory over the Washington Wizards, recording one of his best seasons with 29 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
