Rodrigo Bentancur injury analysis

Renowned sports doctor Brian Sutterer went on to share a thorough analysis of Bentancur’s injury. He shared the analysis on his YouTube channel, starting out by reassuring his viewers that there was nothing unusual about Bentancur’s collapse. He explains:

It’s very clear, he hits his head, loses consciousness, and we’re dealing with a concussion.”

He then continues:

As he goes to head the ball, because he’s rotating his head so much to the side, he gets his body into an awkward position. He loses all sense of where he is, and then hits his head on the ground. This isn’t a sudden cardiac collapse or anything, it’s a concussion.”

Several footages on social media showed Bentancur moving his jaw in an unusual way. It sparked major speculation that his collapse was inevitable, but Sutterer quickly dismissed these claims. He stated that nothing leading up to the collapse was “a mystery”. However, he explained that the jaw movement was likely just Bentancur’s quirk or tick and wasn’t him suffering a heart attack or cardiac arrest.

Brian then dismissed fears about his teammates placing his head in a certain position as they feared he would choke on their tongue. He explained that players should depend on medical staff and not “suddenly turn them over and roll them around.”
