How to try out the ‘What color is your name?’ quiz
Anyone who wishes to try out the ‘What color is your name?’ quiz can do so on the synesthesia website. The website was created as a part of a synesthesia project and unlike other Internet quizzes the color reading test only asks one question, i.e. to enter your name.
Upon entering the person’s name, the result pops up instantly with different colors to represent each corresponding letter. The colors remain the same regardless of the nature of the length of the name. The quiz participants can then download the final image representing the different colors corresponding to the letters in their name. The can then use this image to share it with friends or on social media.
Meaning behind the term Synesthesia
Synesthesia is a phenomenon where the stimulation of one sensory leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory. People with this condition are known as synesthetes, and they can visualize their names by the sound of it or by looking at the letters. However, the primary and secondary senses stimulated can vary from person to person.
The popular internet quiz is one common form of Synesthesia, where people perceive numbers or letters as colors. There are several TikTok videos of synesthetes visualizing their followers’ names on request.
Different perceptions for different Synesthetes
Although the above quiz follows a standard code of colors for reading your names, not all synesthetes have perceptions or visualizations of a particular word. For example, while a name may appear like blue waves to one person it could appear like a dense forest to another person.
As of now, there is hardly any information available about the cause of the condition in humans. Some studies suggest that children develop the condition during childhood when exposed to abstract concepts for the first time.
