Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s brief bio

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, 66, was born on January 8, 1957, in the Uttar Pradesh district of Gonda to Sh. Jagdamba Sharan and Pyari Devi Singh. He is a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). He is also a prominent BJP politician, having served as a member of the Gonda, Kaiserganj, and Balarampur constituencies six times.

Political career

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had been active in politics since his youth in the 1980s. He rose to prominence during the Ram Mandir campaign in Ayodhya as a result of his strong ‘Hindutva’ image at the time. He ran for election for the first time in 1991 and was elected to the 10th Lok Sabha. He was re-elected as MP in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019.

However, he joined the BJP ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and has since contested on BJP tickets. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was elected as a Member of Parliament for the sixth time in 2019 and currently represents the Kaiserganj constituency. He has been involved in various controversies and was one of the accused in the Babri demolition case.

For more than a decade, he has served as President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). He was accused of sexual harassment by Indian female wrestlers in January 2023.

Family

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is married to Ketki Devi Singh, a politician and Zila panchayat chairman from the Gonda constituency. The couple married on July 3, 1958, and has three children, two sons and one daughter.
