Mark Williams’ uneven effort left him surprised at 4-3, and his early exit means he’ll probably miss the Players Championship the following week. Williams scored a break of 122 to lead 2-1, but Jones won the following two frames to lead 3-2 with a long double on the last pink. By winning the sixth frame, Williams tied the score at 3-3, but Jones took command of the decisive frame with a strong run of 73. Mark Selby, the winner of the BetVictor English Open, defeated Si Jiahui 4-3 with breaks of 124 in the fifth frame and 85 in the last frame.
With excellent runs of 82, 110, and 59, David Gilbert defeated BetVictor Shoot Out champion Chris Wakelin to win 4-2. Among other matches of Tuesday, Kyren Wilson suffered a surprising 2-4 loss against Pang Junxu to crash out from the tournament. Meanwhile, Ronnie O’Sullivan held his nerve to win the decider against Ross that allowed him to seal his berth in the last-32.
Up until the quarterfinal round, every match in the Welsh Open main draw will be a best-of-seven frames contest. The semi-final will be played in a best-of-11-frames style, while the championship match will be played in a best-of-19-frames format on Sunday.

From the $427,000 total prize pool, it is understood that the 2023 Welsh Open champion would receive ยฃ80,000. In addition, the second-place finisher in the competition will win ยฃ35,000, while the losers of each semifinal will each receive ยฃ17,500. Mark Williams and Kyren Wilson will get a $3,000 prize after being unexpectedly eliminated in the first round of the 2023 Welsh Open.
