The ‘Fantastic Four’ actor wants the judge to list the three-bed La Jolla property up for sale as he fears he cannot pay for the house anymore.
The 39-year-old fears the property will face foreclosure, since neither he nor Alice can pay all the missed mortgage payments. Currently, the total unpaid mortgage payments stands at $15,271, which include a $4,616 power bill, and $11,793 in unpaid tax.
The actor made a court filing on December 2, claiming that he is financially under a lot of trouble. He shared how he got just one paid gig last year and is currently relying on his girlfriend Bianca Wallace.
Gruffudd further stated in the court filing:
Alice and I cannot afford to keep it, yet Alice will not agree to sell it. I have explained these financial circumstances to Alice and have asked her numerous times since we separated, through counsel, to help financially and to agree to sell the La Jolla residence… but Alice has not agreed to my requests or settlement proposals
Gruffudd also mentioned how Alice may probably be able to pay the expenses for the La Jolla residence short-term. However, he adds that based on what he knows, Alice cannot afford to pay the long-term expenses for the residence.
Messy Divorce
Just last year in March, the actor filed for divorce after his ex-wife made claims on social media about Ioan walking out on her and their two daughters Ella and Elsie. Gruffudd obtained a restraining order against Alice, which prevented her from ever sharing their private messages or publishing “false public allegations”.
Gruffudd revealed in the court filing about how he is facing a setback in his career and he is now unable to pay off his $745,000 mortgage on the La Jolla home.
Never-Ending Bills
Ioan has left the house to his ex-wife and kids for nearly two years now after the divorce. Despite this, he has been paying off the mortgage payments for the home including property taxes and homeowner’s insurance premiums. He has also paid the utility bills for the residence, which includes electricity, gas, telephone, and cable/internet.
Ioan has even paid all health insurance premiums for himself as well as for Alice and the children. The actor even paid the insurance for the community car Alice drives as well as cellular phone bills for everyone. Gruffudd also mentioned that he paid for all the gardening and pool maintenance expenses.
Moreover, up until April 2022, Gruffudd paid off all credit card bills for their joint credit and debit cards, which Alice used for day-to-day expenses such as groceries. He also added how up until April 2022, he was the one who paid the nanny/housekeeper, Gloria. He even paid for Ella’s private school tuition and fees for the past academic session.
The ‘Titanic’ actor shared how he does not have any more funds left to pay off the monthly expenses for the La Jolla residence, or any other living expenses for himself, his ex-wife Alice or their children.
Gruffudd revealed how he currently has only about $2,829 in his American bank accounts. While in his bank account in the United Kingdom, he has approximately around £12,193, which is approximately $14,802. Moreover, he does not own any investment accounts, or possess any liquid retirement accounts. He concluded by sharing how he currently pays $2,348 per month for health insurance for himself, Alice and their children.
