Rajasthan Royals (RR) upset Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven runs in Mumbai in one of the most entertaining matches of the 2022 IPL. Buttler made a century and Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed a five-wicket haul in the match, which featured two of the best individual performances of the season. Shreyas’ remarkable batting performance of 85 runs in 51 deliveries was in vain.

After Shreyas won the toss and opted to bowl first, RR was sent in to bat. Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal put on a 97-run opening partnership in only nine overs as the 2008 winners took advantage of a batting paradise at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Sunil Narine took KKR’s first wicket of the day, dismissing Padikkal for 24 runs.
KKR’s scoring rate remained strong despite the pitch, thanks to skipper Sanju Samson. Samson struck a 19-ball 38, which featured three boundaries and two sixes. Buttler, who reached the three-figure milestone in just 59 balls, was the star of the show. In just six games, the English opener has scored his second century of the season.
Buttler became only the sixth player in league history to score multiple centuries in the same season as a result of his knock. Shimron Hetmyer’s quick-fire cameo of 26 in 13 balls after Pat Cummins removed him for 103 ensured RR put up 216 on the board, the best first-inning total of the competition so yet.

The effort to push Narine backfired and KKR’s chase got off to a bad start. After getting run-out on the first ball of the innings, the spinner was removed for a duck without facing a single delivery. With a magnificent 28-ball 58, Aaron Finch displayed his brilliance for the first time in KKR and pushed them back into position to win the game.

Skipper Iyer, who produced one of his best innings in the IPL, provided good support to Finch. Finch and Iyer put on a 107-run second-wicket stand in only 55 balls to put KKR on the right road to win. RR’s famed spin-bowling duo of Chahal and Ashwin, on the other hand, proved their value by turning the game around.
Chahal limited Nitish Rana to 18 runs, while Ashwin bowled a brilliant delivery to send Andre Russell back to the pavilion for a golden duck. Chahal had one of his best bowling performances of the season in the 17th over of the game, taking four wickets, including Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi, and Pat Cummins. The first hat-trick of the season came as a result of the last three dismissals.
Later in the innings, Umesh Yadav tried to keep KKR in the game by smashing Trent Boult for 20 runs in an over. However, it was a matter of too little, too late for RR, as Obed McCoy took two wickets in the final over to claim a seven-run triumph.
