Man United fans’ chants for Phil Foden’s mom have gone viral
During Sunday’s derby, Manchester United fans sang offensive chants regarding the mother of Phil Foden, prompting Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to accuse them of being impolite. As he exited the pitch after a dull goalless draw at Old Trafford, Guardiola suggested that opposing fans should feel embarrassed for also taunting the England international and his mother.

Along with Nico O’Reilly, Phil Foden, a Stockport native and ardent City supporter, was one of just two local players to start Sunday’s Manchester derby. After a quiet performance, boss Guardiola replaced him and gave him a hug.
Footage on social media appeared to show Foden responding to the chants of “You mum is a sl*g” targeted towards him during the derby and he reacted by raising his thumb to the goading United fans at Old Trafford and applauding sarcastically.
During the match, parts of the home crowd were heard chanting: “Phil Foden, your mum is a sl*g.”
A group of supporters also repeatedly chanted ‘She’s getting sh*gged in the jungle’, abuse which was clearly audible during Sky Sports’ live coverage.
Guardiola also claimed that the songs aimed at Foden were indicative of a larger problem in the contemporary game, with Manchester City reportedly privately startled by the shouts and the number of home fans who joined in during the 0-0 stalemate.
The 45-year-old Mrs. Rowlands has long been acknowledged as a significant influence in the life and work of Phil Foden. At the age of four, she enrolled him in Manchester City’s academy, and she has been a constant presence throughout his ascent through the levels.
Phil, Callum, Kenzi, Lois, and Avayah are the five children that Mrs. Rowlands is mother to. She gained notoriety for stepping in to protect Foden during a fight at a boxing tournament in 2022.
After Amir Khan’s boxing event, she allegedly got punched during a fight at Manchester’s AO Arena. In a widely shared video, Foden was shown looking upset after being provoked, and his girlfriend, Rebecca Cooke, yelled at the group, “Who you calling a c*nt?” Hours after Manchester City’s 3-2 loss to Spurs, the event took place.
After the first altercation, Foden and Cooke entered an arena private room. “Right, who’s calling him?” Mrs. Rowlands asked as she came out to address the group a few moments later. One man said, “No one,” to which she answered, “All right, then f*ck off.”*
Then she seemed to shove a black-jacketed man, causing him to stagger back. Another man intervened and seemed to swipe at her in return. She stumbled backwards before another man stepped in to shield her, however it’s unclear if the blow made contact.
She was in the headlines in January 2024 when she appeared in court and was fined for swearing at Police following a night out in Conwy, Wales the previous September but she was found not guilty of an additional charge of assault.
