The early years of Edwards’ life were spent in Oakland City, Atlanta, Georgia. His father nicknamed him “Ant-Man” when he was three years old. Edwards spent a large portion of his early years playing football as a cornerback, running back, and quarterback.

At the age of ten, he was among the top Pop Warner running backs in the nation after playing youth football for the Atlanta Vikings.

After witnessing his boys play basketball, Edwards “thought it looked more fun” and shifted his attention to the game. At their grandmother’s house, he and his siblings frequently played basketball. He started working with Justin Holland, an Atlanta-based basketball trainer and former Liberty college player, when he started ninth grade.
