Harry Kane missed a penalty in the World Cup quarter-final against France.
Gareth Southgate’s team went on to lose the game 2-1 against France in the world cup quarter-final. The striker’s 53rd goal in the match against France tied the record for most goals scored by an English player for a country, but the night will be remembered for the late penalty he missed that cost England a 2-1 victory.

Following the World Cup break, domestic football resumed with Spurs’ journey to west London. It was also Kane’s first outing since England’s quarterfinal loss to France when he missed a penalty.
Kane was trying to move over the incident as he turned his attention back to the Spurs. But bitter Brentford fans wouldn’t let him forget his heart-breaking penalty loss, singing “you let your country down” at him during the first half. Ivan Toney, the star striker for Brentford who is currently the subject of a match-betting investigation, was the next target. “Toney, what’s the odds?” could be heard being sung by the travelling Tottenham supporters. and “In the morning, you’re getting fired.”

Kane nearly won it with a header that hit the crossbar before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, one of five Tottenham stars who played at the World Cup, levelled the score with a composed finish. With 30 points, Tottenham is in fourth place, and Brentford is in ninth place overall before the rest of the day’s games.
