In the second over of India’s innings, opener Mandhana nicked the first delivery from Katherine Brunt and wicket-keeper Amy dived to her left to grab the ball.
After seeing the confidence of England’s wicket-keeper, Smiriti started to walk back to the pavilion. But the replays of the match showed that Jones dropped the catch and the decision was overturned.
Following that Mandhana came back at the ground and vented her anger by smashing three fours off the remaining five deliveries of the over.
However, fans of Smriti Mandhana did not seem happy with the English wicket keeper as she claimed the catch. After the incident, Twitter was flooded with messages as everyone started saying that Amy is a cheater.
One of Smiriti’s fans took to Twitter and posted the clip of the match’s replays as he wrote, “Here is the full video of Cheater AMY JONES cheating against Smriti Mandhana.”
Another fan wrote, “English wicketkeeper Amy Jones actually tried to claim this as a catch. Then they lecture Deepti Sharma about the spirit of the game,” while posting footage of the match.
A third one posted the same footage while expressing, “Amy Jones cheated against india. Two word about it.”
All the chaos led Amy to explain her side of the story and to apologize to everyone on social media.
The 29-year-old took to Twitter and penned down, “The right decision was made, I thought it was clear to everyone that the ball came out at the end of my role and I wasn’t trying to hide that.
“In the moment it felt like I had control of the ball for long enough. From replays it’s clear that I didn’t, I’m sorry for my mistake.”
