The University of Florida took back a football scholarship offer made to high school student Marcus Stokes for using the n-word while rapping along to a song with the video viral on Twitter
Marcus Stokes, a star quarterback at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, posted a video of himself imitating the song’s lyrics as he drove in a car.
In the now-deleted two-second clip, he can be heard saying, “Welcome back, n—-.”

“I was in my car listening to rap music and rapping along with the words. Posted a video of it on social media,” Stokes said in a statement on Sunday. “I deeply apologise for the words in the song that I chose to say.”
Also Marcus Stokes, who went to the same high school as University of Florida legend Tim Tebow, confirmed that his offer had been taken away after the incident.
“I never meant to hurt anyone, and I know that even if I’m singing along with a song, my words still have a lot of weight,” he said. Stokes had more than a dozen offers from Division 1 colleges. In July, he switched his commitment from Penn State to Florida.
Fellow Florida high school star Roderick Kearney, who is going to the University of Florida. Tried to comfort Stokes during the controversy.
“Prayers go out to Marcus Stokes and his family for the rest of his education and college football decision,” he wrote. “A great kid with a lot of heart. As young men in this society, we must be careful about what we do, say, or post.”

“I completely accept the consequences of my actions,” Stokes wrote. The promise of the scholarship was taken back soon after Florida signed Jaden Rashada, a top quarterback recruit from California.
