Desperate to draw first blood in the second innings of the WTC Final against New Zealand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was caught sledging Tom Latham before his catch

India batted first during ICC World Test Championship final at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. They got off to a good start and ended the second day at 146/3. On the third day though, the Kiwis brought them down at 217. The Indian pacers initiated their defense with Ishant Singh and Jasprit Bumrah taking the lead. They reduced New Zealand to 101/2 before the day ended.

Waiting eagerly for a breakthrough, The Men in Blue skipper resorted to a desperate attempt to draw first blood when New Zealand began their innings. Devon Conway and Tom Latham were standing tall in the fourth over and Jasprit Bumrah was bowling the over. The latter’s third delivery was a blinder which Latham misjudged. Grabbing the opportunity, Kohli wasted no time and sledged Latham from the slips.

“He got no idea Jas, You’re all over him buddy, You can make him up there as well, He knows he’s not getting it on the bat boys”, said Kohli. Watch the full incident in the video below.

After the pace attack by Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami failed, it was the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who gave India its breakthrough. Tom Latham ultimately had to leave the pitch later when Ashwin dismissed him. He had scored 30 runs off 104 deliveries. Ashwin received aid from Virat Kohli who took a superb catch and followed it by celebrating in style.

Devon Convoy continued to score a half-century before Ishant Sharma dismissed him at 54 runs. New Zealand ended Day 3 at 101/2 with Kane Williamson batting at 12 and Ross Taylor yet to get off the mark. Earlier in the day, Kiwi fast bowlers Kylie Jamieson, Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner and Colin de Grandhomme gave a tough time to the Indian batting order.
