Video of Virat Kohli eating chewing gum as the Indian national anthem was played has gone viral on Twitter with many lambasting his gesture
Although India had ended up conceding the ODI series to the hosts after losing two encounters on the bounce, when the visitors stepped out to take on South Africa in the series concluder, the contest was far from an inconsequential one.
With India making four changes, names who could herald in a new era with Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma at the helm, the performances of the newly inducted players was something everyone had an eye on. However, even before the Indians stepped out to field, Virat Kohli made heads turn his way owing to his shenanigans as both teams gathered for the national anthems.

As per tradition, the national anthem of both the countries is played prior to the encounter being played with the Indian one played first owing to them being the visitors. And as it rung across the concourses, the cameras zoomed in on Kohli who was seen chewing gum with his head down whilst his counterparts proudly held their heads high and bellowed the national anthem.

Video of the incident needed little time in going viral with many lashing out at Kohli for disrespecting the national anthem by not even having one minute to refrain himself from sucking in the juices of his gum. This isn’t the first time Kohli has been hit out at with his conventional don’t burst crackers on Diwali advice being lambasted by a magnitude of the country.
While the ex-captain has been overzealous in trying to teach Hindus how to celebrate their festivals, he and his wife have curbed themselves from doing the same during festivals of other religions. Maybe Anushka can write a paragraph to justify her husband eating gum during the country’s national anthem.
