While the 2023 NFL draft is in progress, Sean Payton, the head coach of the Denver Broncos, seems to have already sparked a controversy as the video footage of Payton ripping a bong during the draft goes viral
Every time the name Laremy Tunsil is spoken, people quickly recall the Houston Texans player who was caught on camera smoking a bong while wearing a gas mask hours before being taken in the top half of the first round. It had no impact on his ability to be drafted or on his ability to advance in his career.

This time, a video showing Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton obviously smoking a bong has social media in a frenzy. We have no idea if this video is of recent or old times. However, one thing is for sure the Broncos boss won’t likely be harmed by this viral footage at all.

The former Saints head coach was traded to the Broncos back in February for the team’s first-round pick in 2023 (No. 29 overall) and a second-round pick in 2024. Nathaniel Hackett, who was fired the day of the Broncos’ appalling 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, will be replaced by Payton, the 2006 NFL Coach of the Year.
As Jerry Rosburg, the team’s interim coach, wrapped up the year, the team’s record was 5-12. In his 15 seasons as the Saints’ head coach, Payton was 152-89, including a victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Payton worked as a Fox Sports analyst last year but did not coach.
What other disputes has Sean Payton been associated with?
The New Orleans Saints had been giving their defenders incentives in exchange for purposefully hurting offensive players on the other team, according to the findings of an NFL inquiry that was completed back in 2012. Payton, who was the team’s head coach at the time, was found to be a crucial in the cover-up effort and received the first punishment of its sort in league history when he was suspended for the entire 2012 season.
In an effort to entice him out of retirement, the Miami Dolphins engaged in Payton’s second significant scandal last year. The pursuit resulted in an inquiry that exposed improper interactions between the Dolphins and Payton’s agent Don Yee, whom he also shared with quarterback Tom Brady, who was then in retirement and whom the Dolphins also tried to recruit.
As a result, Miami lost their 2023 first-round and 2024 third-round draught picks as well as a total $2 million punishment for its owners.
