This isn’t the first time New Yorkers have encountered this peculiar phenomenon. Back in 2017, the city grappled with a similar occurrence. Citizens were cautioned that it could potentially be an antifreeze liquid. Recently, a similar green substance was also spotted in Brooklyn, leading to a flurry of online speculations.
This green slime made its appearance in New York in 2014 as well, marking it as a recurring and intriguing phenomenon for the city’s residents.

X’s community notes clarified that the green substance was, in fact, “water filled with green dye” in reality. They further explained that Plumbers commonly employ a harmless, fluorescent green dye for the purpose of identifying leaks in plumbing and sewage systems. However, a contrasting report from a news outlet suggested that the water’s green hue could be attributed to the presence of hexavalent chromium.
