On Tuesday at around two in the morning, a break-in occurred at SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop around 27th and O Street. Gilbert is charged with breaking the glass door with a huge chunk of cement from the parking lot and fleeing the scene with a bag containing items worth $1,672 to the company.
An AP article claims that when the police responded to an allegation of a break-in at the store, they discovered Gilbert carrying the bag and headed towards the exit. According to police officials, the store suffered damage worth an estimated $650.
A picture of the purportedly stolen goods has been provided by TMZ Sports. displaying a variety of vapes and other items. A man identified as the 6’5″, 275-pound football player was seen on surveillance video hurling a piece of cement through a door to enter the building. He entered and punched down a second door to go to SJ’s store.
Then, for several minutes, the face-covering, shirtless man was observed browsing through the store. Police arrived at the site after receiving a call about a probable break-in while they were inside. When he started to leave the shop, he was surprised to see at least 8 police officers waiting outside. Gilbert tossed his bags to the ground and jumped back, palms raised, shocked, before being peacefully taken into custody.
Former five-star prospect Arik Gilbert, who transferred from Georgia to Nebraska this summer, was anticipated to be a key player for the Cornhuskers in 2023. However, the arrest has now cast doubt on his season after he spent the previous two seasons in the Bulldogs’ depth chart behind Brock Bowers.
Arik Gilbert was arrested this morning for burglary at SJ's Liquor and Vape Shop. He stole a value of $1,672.07 which included vapes, Delta 8, cigars, and lighters.

The tight end has not yet been given the go-ahead to compete for Nebraska. Gilbert submitted a waiver and is awaiting the NCAA’s ruling on whether he is eligible for the 2023 college football season. An effective response might now be hampered by the burglary incident. However, the programme is striving to ensure that Arik Gilbert can play for the Cornhuskers this season, according to earlier this month’s statement from Nebraska coach Matt Rhule. Meanwhile, he is sad and disappointed about the incident.
