“First, I’m sad that there is a video about it because it seems like my privacy has been violated,” Kathryn Bernardo shared. “But then, it happened, so it’s okay if it happened. If I do that, or if I don’t do that, or if I only do that in the movie, that doesn’t define my personality. It won’t make me less of a person. I guess it just depends on the people. Just wait for the movie.”
Invasion of personal space
Kathryn further emphasized the importance of personal space and privacy, sharing her hopes that such incidents won’t occur in the future. “I hope it won’t happen again because we also need our privacy and personal space,” she said.
The video, which gained traction in July 2023, drew considerable attention and criticism, particularly as Kathryn is often viewed as a role model for younger audiences.
Kathryn Bernardo’s co star comes to the defense
But not everyone was quick to condemn her. Dolly de Leon, her co-star in “A Very Good Girl,” defended Kathryn, stating that she was merely holding the vape for an upcoming scene.
“She has to practice using a vape because she doesn’t know how to use it. But if she’s indeed vaping and drinking, it’s okay because she’s at the right age. She’s at the legal age,” de Leon said.
Who is Kathryn Bernardo?
Born on March 26, 1996, in Cabanatuan, Philippines, Kathryn Bernardo has come a long way since her early acting days. She grew up in a family of four siblings—two sisters, Chrysler and Kaye, and a brother, Kevin. After starting her primary education at OB Montessori Center Inc., Kathryn opted for home-based learning once her acting career took off.
Kathryn Bernardo’s rise to stardom
Kathryn Bernardo made her acting debut in 2003 with a minor role in the TV series “It Might Be You.” Her first major breakthrough came when she played the love interest, Maya, in the 2006 TV show “Super Inggo.”
She continued to climb the ranks of fame, starring in movies like “Gagamboy” (2004), “Taltong Baraha” (2006), and “Supahpapalicious” (2008). However, it was her role in the 2010 remake of the drama series “Mara Clara” that truly catapulted her into the limelight.
A lesson in privacy and personal choice
As Kathryn Bernardo navigates this recent controversy, she emphasizes that her actions in private do not define her public persona. With her comments at the press conference, she calls for a greater respect for personal privacy—not just for celebrities but for everyone.
As she continues to take on new roles and challenges in her career, one thing is clear: Kathryn Bernardo remains unapologetically herself, advocating for personal choice and privacy along the way.
