Bayern Munich’s run in the Champions League was halted in the quarter-finals by Manchester City, with French defender Dayot Upamecano having a particularly bad night, so bad that he was called UpaMaguire
The German team lost 4-1 on aggregate, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.
Despite the entire team not playing up to their usual standards, it was Upamecano who struggled the most during the match.
Last summer, Bayern Munich bought Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig for an estimated price of €42.5 million. They hoped he would help their defence. But his play in both games of the quarterfinals against Manchester City left a lot to be desired.

Dayot Upamecano had a terrible game in the first leg at the Etihad. He made a number of mistakes that led to goals for Manchester City. He didn’t do much better in the second game at the Allianz Arena.
A pundit on the game was not happy with Upamecano’s play. He compared him to Manchester United defender Harry Maguire. Maguire has been getting a lot of bad press lately. People have made fun of his acts and made him a meme on social media.

The commentator made the connection after Erling Haaland scored for Manchester City after Upamecano slipped. It’s not clear if the commentator was making a joke or criticising the Frenchman, but his poor performance was brought out by the statement.
The mistakes Dayot Upamecano made did not stop there. In the first half, he took down Haaland in the penalty area, but the Norwegian was offside, so he only got a yellow card. But later in the half, he was called for handball in the penalty area, which gave Manchester City a penalty. Haaland missed the spot-kick, so Upamecano didn’t have to be embarrassed again.

Even though Dayot Upamecano made some mistakes, blaming him for loss will not be right. League. The team as a whole didn’t play as well as they usually do, so Manchester City deserved to win.
With the win, Manchester City moved on to the Champions League semi-finals, where they will play Real Madrid. He is also the first person in the history of the sport to make it to the semi-finals ten times. But Guardiola hasn’t won the Champions League since 2011, and this year’s game could be his chance to end that streak.
