Although Timo Werner did make amends for the miss later with a late goal, the German striker did himself no favours by failing to convert a sitter
While there have been no fingers pointed at Timo Werner’s work ethic and willingness to run himself to the ground, the striker does have work to do infront of the goal. The German striker’s need to pull up his socks when it comes to converting chances was on show during Germany’s clinical decimation of Iceland.
Timo Werner Comes Up With Torrid Miss In Iceland vs Germany
Werner who did everything right in the buildup to his miss eventually ended up scuffing his tracks when it mattered the most. His searing speed saw him in the right position to receive Lukas Kolstermann’s ball who sent it across the face of the goal after working the flanks.
Finding himself in acres of space, right infront of an empty Iceland goal, all Werner needed to do was to guide the ball into the back of the net. However, he made a meal of the chance as he sent the ball well over the goal to add to what is now becoming a notoriously famous pile of horrid misses.

Werner did manage to redeem himself later in the tie though as he completed his country’s demolition of Iceland. The striker scored in the 88th minute of the affair to complete Germany’s 4-0 win on the night and with it make it three goals from three world cup qualifiers across the course of the last couple of weeks.
Werner now returns to Chelsea where he’s facing a battle to reclaim his spot at the top of the park, one he’s relinquished to new signing Romelu Lukaku.
