Watch: Timo Werner Introduced As Chelsea Goalkeeper At F1 Austrian Grand Prix

During an interview at the 2021 F1 Austrian Grand Prix, A Sky Sports Formula 1 reporter mistakenly referred to striker Timo Werner as a Chelsea and Germany goalkeeper

Chelsea and German forward Timo Werner was in attendance at the Austrian Grand Prix 2021 this weekend as England had sent Germany packing in the round of 16 on Tuesday at Wembley, with Werner largely anonymous throughout the campaign. But he has been the butt of a joke recently due to an incident which happened while he had agreed to let Sky Sports interview him on the gird in the moments leading up to lights out during the Austrian Grand Prix.

Reporter Mistakenly Addresses Timo Werner As ‘Chelsea And Germany Goalkeeper’ At F1 Austrian GP

Sky Sports F1 presenter Natalie Pinkham caught up with Chelsea forward Timo Werner in Austria and called him a goalkeeper instead of a forward, making an error. Reporter Natalie said, “We’ve got Timo Werner here, Chelsea and Germany’s goalkeeper. It’s good to have you with us, how are you?” And Timo replied with a timid, “I’m fine, thank you.” Watch the exchange in the video below.

Even though the reporter’s mistake was pardonable, rival fans and trolls did not want to miss this chance to shoot their shot at ridiculing Werner. They have been poking fun at the fact that one of the most exciting attacking options in the world, is now being mistaken for a shot-stopper.

Werner managed to bag 12 goals and 15 assists for Chelsea during the 2020/21 campaign and is hoping to come back stronger in the next season which begins next month. He will have to work harder to secure his place in the club as Chelsea will look to add some more faces. These will include a new striker, into the squad, looking to mount a Premier League title challenge.

German football manager Thomas Tuchel will be hoping that Werner will come back firing after a difficult debut season in England that saw him go onto win the Champions League. Chelsea are due to return to pre-season training on Monday but the club will give Werner an extended period off to recover due to his involvement in the Euros.
