He had earlier been knocked out of the men’s singles event by Sweden’s Truls Moregard in the Round of 32. This marks the second controversy involving Chuqin, as a reporter allegedly broke his paddle after his first-round victory in the men’s singles.

The world No. 1 was devastated by the loss of his favorite paddle and was subsequently eliminated in the next round by Moregard, who secured only his second win against Chuqin in international competition.

The past few days have been tumultuous for the 24-year-old Chuqin, who, along with Sun Yingsha, had won gold in the mixed doubles final against North Korea before his fortunes turned in the individual event.

Despite the setbacks, Wang admitted that he “lost control of my emotions a little” after his paddle broke but did not blame anyone for the incident or his defeat.

“It didn’t really have an influence on the match. It was just that my opponent played really, really well,” Chuqin told the media.

What Exactly Happened?

For the context, less than 24 hours after celebrating his mixed doubles gold medal, Wang suffered a shock exit in the singles event to Sweden’s Truls Moregard.

For the 22-year-old Moregard, won the first two games against the world number one, who then leveled the score. In the critical fifth game, Wang narrowed the gap from 4-8 to 8-8 but eventually lost 9-11.
