At least ten individuals were injured shortly after midnight on Sunday when residents began yelling that guns were being fired. The crowd didn’t realize it wasn’t true. on the street outside sparked fear, sending hordes of people fleeing in the hopes of escaping a shooter.
Following a succession of horrific shootings in recent weeks, the shooting fear occurred. On Tuesday, a gunman opened fire at a Texas elementary school, killing 19 children and two teachers, and earlier in May, a white gunman opened fire in a Buffalo supermarket, killing ten people in a racist massacre. A gunman opened fire on a subway train in Brooklyn in April, injuring 23 people.

It’s unknown how the rumor started, but it quickly spread. Someone was allegedly shooting rounds outside the venue, according to a security guard. People exiting the boxing event made a frenzied run back inside, and the place quickly became a shambles.
Naomi Osaka was one of those present, tweeting that she heard “shouting and saw people running” before being told “there was an active shooter and we had to gather in a room and seal the doors,” adding that she was terrified.
The championship match between Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero was also attended by Madonna. It’s unclear if she was present at the time of the brawl.
“I observed a person being stomped practically out cold,” one witness wrote on Twitter.
The 10 people who were known to be hurt were transferred to a hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries, according to officials. Obviously, the Uvalde, Texas tragedy was on everyone’s mind. Especially because officials have expressed concern about copycats.
