Watch: Shubman Gill Latches Onto A Stunning Catch To Send Back Ross Taylor In The WTC Final 2021

India finally got their much needed breakthrough as Shubman Gill pulled off an electric catch off Mohammed Shami

Despite the best of their efforts, India failed to clobber Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor’s partnership in the opening session of day five of the WTC final 2021.

With the two mainstays taking centrestage as they parried away everything India’s speedsters threw at them with ease, it looked like this test match was headed towards a draw. With two days being washed out completely owing to inclement weather and New Zealand refusing to give anything away, there was only one outcome on the cards.

However, this Indian team refuses to give up and the team’s fight and character was well documented towards the tailend of the first session. From 117-2 to 135-5, the Indian team brought the Black Caps on their heels with an electric period of fast bowling.

Shubman Gill Takes Sensational Catch

The Indian team’s revival was sparked by Mohammed Shami who ended up sending Ross Taylor back into the hut. However, Shami had Shubham Gill to thank for this wicket as the Indian opener snagged one of the catches of the WTC final.

Pulling Shami’s delivery, Taylor was only able to hit the ball as far away as Shubman Gill. However, despite the catch being in his vicinity, it was far from a straightforward effort for the starlet.

He was least perturbed though as he dived to his right to lap onto the ball and give India a well deserved breakthrough. It was a flash point for the Indian side as Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami moved in unison to pick up three wickets for 18 runs.

The wickets came at a crucial time with India taking the session right before lunch. While the match is still headed towards the draw, the slew of wickets have opened up the encounter with us still having a sixth reserve day.

Given the treacherous nature of the track, the clash can still swing either way.
