Bill Walton, a basketball legend and TV commentator, caused a stir on Thursday when he used midgets for small people during a live college basketball game with his video now viral
Walton was trying to give praise to the Pac-12 Tournament’s in-game host while calling the game between Arizona State and USC.
“Shrivelling midgets,” Bill Walton uses derogatory slur during live broadcast, video goes viral
Bill Walton said at halftime, “He does not need a little chair because he is a giant in a world full of shriveling midg*ts.” He then turned to his broadcast partner, Dave Pasch, and joked, “Speaking of shriveling midg*ts, what is your name again?”

Pasch responded by asking, “What is wrong with you?” He then tried to move on from the awkward interaction to talk about the game, but Walton interrupted. “I’m guilty of having fun in Las Vegas, fun with a purpose,” the former center said, before finally getting back to talking about the contest.
The Bill Walton incident has upset the Little People of America, an organisation that has called the term a derogatory slur and asked people to stop using it. Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, also got into trouble when he used the term at an event.
The Sun Devils beat the Trojans by a score of 77-72, but Walton’s use of the insulting word overshadowed the game.
