A video of Shawn Kemp firing a gun during a parking lot altercation has surfaced following news of his arrest for an alleged drive-by shooting.

According to the Tacoma Police Department in Washington, the former Seattle SuperSonics player was reportedly apprehended on March 8 in connection with an alleged drive-by shooting in a parking lot close to the Tacoma mall.

He is currently being held at the Pierce County Jail, according to reports.

In a video that witnesses seem to have recorded, Shawn Kemp can be seen shooting in the open.

On Wednesday at around 2:00 PM, two cars collided, resulting in a shooting. Once one car fled the scene, a gun was purportedly discovered.

According to the authorities, nobody was injured, and six-time All-Star Shawn Kemp was taken into custody on the spot. Kemp was later recognised as Shawn Kemp after initially being described as a 53-year-old guy.

The ex-NBA star was detained for a drive-by crime, a class B felony with a possible 10-year prison sentence.

Video shows Shawn Kemp opening fire

Kemp is wearing a red vest and can be seen in the footage walking up to a car while holding a rifle. He appears to speak at least once before pulling the trigger, and then a shot is heard.

Several gunshots were heard, according to witnesses, before they took their phones out to video the event, according to TMZ.

Before speaking with police, they said they saw Kemp drive around the parking lot and put his gun into a shrub.

Later scenes suggest that the handgun was discovered by the police in a shrub near the parking lot.

Shawn Kemp says it was for a self-defence

According to close sources of Kemp, who spoke to FOX 13, the shooting was done in self-defence. On Tuesday, he allegedly had items stolen from his car as he was attempting to reclaim them.

The reports said that on Wednesday, he used his iPhone to find Tacoma, and as soon as he approached the vehicle, a suspect fired shots. They asserted that he retaliated out of self-defense.
