A former Real Madrid player who is currently on loan to Almeria, Sergio Arribas, is being hailed as a “Hero,” after rescuing a couple from drowning in the Maldives as seen in a viral video

Arribas is currently enjoying vacation with his girlfriend. While enjoying his pool time with girlfriend, Arribas saw a couple struggling to stay afloat while snorkeling.

Spanish footballer without thinking anything, leaped into the water to help them.

The couple had drifted too far from the shore, Arribas swam to them and assisted them back to shore, where a group of people had gathered to help.

Now, a video of the incident is swirling around internet with Sergio Arribas fans and coaches praising him for his bravery, quick response and heroic act that prevented what could have been a tragic incident.

One such social media user took to X and wrote “Sergio Arribas was in a pool in his room in Maldives when he saw a couple drowning in the sea. 22y/o did not think twice about diving in to save them. Great act!”

About Sergio Arribas

For the unfamiliar, Sergio Arribas Calvo, born on September 30, 2001, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Almeria in the Segunda División.

Born in Madrid, Arribas joined Real Madrid’s La Fábrica in 2012 after playing for CD Leganés and CDE Benito Pérez Galdós. In September 2020, after helping the under-20s win the UEFA Youth League, he was promoted to the reserves in Segunda División B.

Standing at 1.72 m (5 ft 7+1⁄2 in), Arribas made his first-team and La Liga debut on September 20, 2020, as a late substitute for Vinícius Júnior in a 0–0 away draw against Real Sociedad.

He made his Champions League debut on 9 December 2020 as a substitute in a 2–0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach and scored his first goal for the first team on February 8, 2023 in a 4–1 win against Al Ahly in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup.

On August 9, 2023, Arribas signed a six-year contract with Almeria in the top tier. He scored his first goal in the top tier 10 days later, netting the opener in a 3–1 home defeat to his former club, Real Madrid.

Speaking about this season, Arribas made 34 league appearances for Almeria, scoring 9 goals and providing 5 assists. He is expected to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
