Brittney Griner received 9 years of prison with photos of the Russian prison she’ll be housed in going viral
After being found guilty of cannabis possession and smuggling on Thursday and receiving a nine-year prison sentence, Brittney Griner now has a new home in a Russian prison. The New York Post has images of Griner’s potential new residence hidden within a Russian prison.
Griner may go back to the female prison where she has spent the last six months outside of Moscow, however it is unclear exactly where she will be serving out her extremely punitive sentence, which she is appealing.

The Correctional Colony No. 1 or IK-1 prison is not a gulag from the time of Stalin, but it does appear desolate. According to a recent article in the New York Times, the facility is a former orphanage that was refurbished and turned into a prison where women serve their sentences ten years ago.
The prison, which is housed inside the village of Novoye Grishino, is disproportionately drab and artificially lit. It also contains a Russian Orthodox church inside.
The building’s high grey walls are topped with barbed wire in the video footage, which also provides a view inside the sewing factory where scores of women appear to be employed. In a courtyard covered in snow, there is a huge, decaying statue of Lenin.
While visiting Griner at the institution, journalist Yekaterina Kalugina told The Times that each day at the Phoenix Mercury Center is tedious and repetitive.
Every morning, Kalugina said, convicts, get up and eat a simple breakfast in her cell. Then they are allowed to stroll around the courtyard. After that, they either study books or watch Russian television for the remainder of the day.
Griner is likely to stay in Novoye Grishino
It will be a dreadful life if Griner is made to stay there for the entire nine years. She’ll simply have to deal with it day by day and pray that her fame will get her home. Numerous Americans are imprisoned in Russia for identical offences and have no chance of returning home.
