International football rumour circles are in overdrive following a frightening on-field altercation between two rival strikers during Thursday night’s World Cup opening between Australia and Ireland. Irish goal scorer Ruesha Littlejohn is caught on camera refusing to shake hands with Caitlin Foord, an Australian soccer star, just before the game began.

According to eyewitnesses, tensions reached a breaking point when Littlejohn allegedly tried to approach Foord while the teams were still on the field following the game before being forcefully restrained by several of her teammates.
Now that speculation about the Irish striker’s unusual behaviour is rampant, some supporters believe it may have something to do with Littlejohn’s recent breakup from longtime partner and Irish captain Katie McCabe.
One of Ireland’s most well-known football couples, Littlejohn and McCabe, divorced after a little over seven years of togetherness. In an interview with the UK’s Players Tribune just before the World Cup, McCabe acknowledged the breakup.
According to reports, McCabe and Foord, who both represent UK Premier League powerhouse Arsenal, are close friends and recently spent a vacation in Ibiza with a large group of friends. After splitting fellow Arsenal player Lia Walti, a Swiss midfielder, Foord recently went back to being single.
Daily Mail Australia does not imply that Foord was responsible for Littlejohn and McCabe’s relationship falling apart. Thousands of people have seen a video of the ‘blanked’ handshake on TikTok, with comments focusing on Littlejohn flagrantly ignoring Foord’s offered hand.
Foord refused to respond when contacted through her management about the circumstance. However, according to Matildas sources, Foord and McCabe are just good friends and their friendship had no bearing on McCabe’s separation from Littlejohn. In an interview, McCabe referred to Littlejohn in the past tense as “my partner at the time,” which is a clear indication that they are no longer together. The news of Littlejohn and McCabe’s separation recently made headline news in Ireland.
