Liga MX fans were left stunned after a Queretaro defender, Omar Mendoza was caught poking his finger up the b*m of a rival player, Juan Zapata, following which the referee sent him off with a red card with the video viral

Fans were left disgusted upon seeing the video of the incident and posted a host of reactions online.

A now viral video of the incident showed the exact moment the 34-year-old defender stuck his finger up Zapata’s b*m. In the video, the two were initially jostling for the ball as 23-year-old Zapata, was shielding the ball on the halfway line. This was when Mendoza employed his shocking tactic on Zapata in an attempt to win the ball.
Following the incident, the match referee Fernando Hernandez Gomez, initially missed the incident. However, VAR intervened and requested the official to head to the monitor. Upon a quick view at the screen, the referee without any hesitations issued a red card to Mendoza.
The incident proved to be a vital point of the game as the two stars played pivotal roles in the match results. With Mendoza leaving the pitch in the 62nd minute, Queretaro’s defensive line was significantly weakened. And Zapata produced an injury-time winning goal to make the final score 2-1.
Interestingly, even the match referee has his own bizarre history. The 39-year-old was suspended for 12 matches earlier this year in April for kneeing a player in the groin during a Liga MX match. Moreover, what left fans more shocked was the fact that Cruz Azul defender Willer Ditta came to defend Mendoza’s actions. He insisted that the act was “normal” for players.
He was quoted as saying:
It’s very normal for us to do that kind of thing. The referees always take their measures and it is respectable. These are situations that happen to you there. Suddenly it crosses your mind and comes out of nowhere, but the referees make their decisions.”

One user stated sarcastically how Omar Mendoza could have gotten away with the act 10 years ago but now VAR has ruined everything.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that a match between the two clubs has ended with a scandal. Back in March 2022, officials had to abandon a match between the two teams due to intense fan violence.
