Things went out of hand when the judge said that the woman can’t sue Jordan for “infliction of emotional distress” in a criminal court.
Michigan woman, QaShontae filed a suit against Richard Jordan for intentional infliction of emotional distress while claiming that they had a less-than-perfect date.
According to legal documents, she first filed a suit in 2020 wherein she alleged that Jordan deliberately and intentionally hurt her when he “did not show and left her on [her] mother’s birthday and [her] mom had just passed away”.
In the court hearing, Jordan didn’t seem to say anything except for the fact that it’s a waste of the court’s time and that he’s being sued because of a bad date for $10K.
Things went out of hand when QaShontae and Judge Marable got into a heated argument. The Judge eventually ripped his face shield off to raise his voice at her as she was continuously shouting over him.
Melodramatic Case Hearing Over Zoom
The Judge began the proceedings by telling her that she can’t sue for “infliction of emotional distress” in a criminal court, where the case is currently being tried. After explaining to her that she needs to file this case in a circuit court, things became more calm and clear.
When the Judge Marable asked her if she intends on dropping the criminal case as she is now aware of the fact that she has to file a different suit in civil court, she insisted that she wouldn’t drop the case by stating that she will file another case in circuit court.
To this, the Judge even warned her that she can’t have two cases on the same claims, but the woman started yelling at the judge.
After hearing her yelling and heated arguments, the Judge Marable went on to say that, “I will not sit here and go back and forth with you. Can you be quiet while I talk?” Finally, the court employees had to intervene and they mute the Zoom conversation.
When the judge asked Jordan if he plans to represent himself in this case, Jordan replied with confusion. He said, “To be honest with you sir, I thought this was just gonna be thrown out”.
Jordan further added to his statement in the court, “We had a date, ONE date, and nothing else after that, and now I’m being sued for $10,000. I think this is a waste of your time”.
At his statement, the judge conveyed to him that he should file the appropriate motion to have the case dismissed, but before the judge could say anything, the woman started arguing over the definition of the word “perjury”.
The judge Marable questioned the woman on ‘perjury’ as she insisted that she had evidence that Jordan lied about the bad date with her.
Meanwhile Jordan started rubbing his eyes as the woman continued to cut off the judge over everything and started talking about perjury. To this, the Judge Marable asked her, “First of all, do you understand what perjury is? It’s a false statement made under oath. When did he lie about something that he testified about?”.
In the end, the judge Marable ultimately wrote an order to transfer the case to 7th Circuit court and asked the plaintiff to pay the filing fees. According to the legal documents, the woman didn’t ask for a jury trial, so a jury fee wasn’t applied.
