The Prince and Princess of Wales paid a surprise visit to a Boston Celtics and Miami Heat game on November 30. Wycliffe Grousbeck, the owner of the Boston Celtics, welcomed William and Kate to the TD Garden stadium where more than 20,000 fans of basketball had assembled. They sat courtside with Maura Healey, the incoming governor, and Michelle Wu, the mayor of Boston, throughout the entire game.
The royal couple were jeered.
When the royal couple was recognised by a stadium announcer and seen on the jumbotron, there were allegedly boos from the audience. According to reports, William and Kate are touring the US to celebrate receiving the Earth shot Prize. The duo reportedly kept their composure and watched the game nobly despite the spectators’ constant jeers.
Supporters had not been pleased with the reports that Lady Susan Hussey made racial slurs to Ngozi Fulani, a domestic abuse activist, at a Buckingham Palace charity event. A witness who saw Fulani being interrogated at the Palace event is calling for a cultural revolution inside the monarchy.
During the Queen Consort Camilla’s event on Tuesday, Mandu Reid of the Women’s Equality Party, who was seated next to Sistah Space founder Fulani, overheard a seasoned Palace employee asking the British-born charity worker, “Where do your folks come from?”
Lady Hussey is accused of asking a Fulani about her nationality at the charity event designed to honour the UN’s 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. According to the report, Lady Susan approached Ngozi, pulled her hair back to display her name badge, and startled her by inquiring about the origins of her people. Ngozi claims that she repeatedly asked questions regarding her African ancestry and how she got to the UK.
The royal couple reportedly left as a result of claims of bias.
The royal couple observed the Celtics’ custom of recognising a “Hero Among US,” or someone actively working to better their community, during the second quarter when the score was tied at 47. The Miami Heat game was also won the game. Instead of leaving after the third quarter, the royal couple decided to stay until the end of the game, waving goodbye and shaking hands with fans along the way.
