The motorcyclist simply lost control and crashed his bike.
MotoGP rider Pol Espargaro was involved in a devastating crash at the Portuguese Grand Prix on Friday, suffering many severe wounds including back and chest trauma. The 31-year-old lost control on the straight ahead of turn 10 and was thrown from his KTM bike in the final moments of FP2.

Later, he was rushed to a hospital.
The GasGas Factory rider received care for approximately 30 minutes before being put into an ambulance and flown to a nearby hospital in Faro. Espargaro’s pulmonary contusion, jaw fracture, and broken dorsal vertebra were later confirmed by MotoGP. Despite the horrific nature of his wounds, a doctor also stated that Espargaro never lost consciousness.
According to Dr. Angel Charte, he experienced a high-intensity fall and a large polytraumatic contusion at the level of his entire dorsal, lumbar, and sacral spine. We’ll be able to assess the extent once tests are finished at the hospital in Faro, he added.
Technically, the rider is in fantastic condition. He is healthy neurologically and has never lost consciousness. He has saturated well and we have never had to intubate him, but he does have a significant pulmonary contusion. Although slightly drugged, he is awake and alert, and the neurological evaluation revealed nothing abnormal.
Since then, some MotoGP competitors have demanded that steps be taken to safeguard individuals who take part in the sport.
Luca Marini has reacted to the accident.
VR46 Ducati rider Luca Marini described the accident as unique. Yet it was feasible given the circumstances at the time, he experienced that for him as well. “Since there is no grip on the track, if you apply too much rear brake while climbing a slope, you will experience a rear slide. But it’s the same every year. Another type of gravel is required for this track,” he continued.
