Reno Air Races saw a horrific incident during Sunday’s championship round in Reno, Nevada. The Aero L-29 Delfin was in the final for its category when it crashed during the third lap of the race.

Event organizers confirmed, that a pilot died in the jet, he was in an Aero L-29 crashed in the championship round of the Air Races on Sunday afternoon at Reno, Nevada. The CEO of the Reno Air Racing Association, said at a press conference on Sunday evening that the pilot had died following the fatal crash. The video of the fatal crash was captured on the Reno Air Races YouTube channel, but was taken down shortly after the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a preliminary statement: At 3:45 pm the Aero L-29 Delfin crashed behind a residential area in Reno.
The incident took place near a tower used to mark the flight path
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office tweeted after four o’clock that it is reacting to the crash, that it is located the area of 13945 Red Rock Road, approximately 2 miles north of the race place. The Washoe Sherriff Office also advised the people to avoid the area of the incident.
The jet airplane model, originally developed for military training, was in the final, or “gold,” jet class, race when it crashed in the third round.
The identify the pilot was not revealed , saying that the host organization and the “September family” of pilots and fans attending the event “express our deepest sympathies to the pilot’s family and friends.”
The cause of the accident remains to be determined and the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the occurrence.
The annual event, this year referred to as the 2022 Air Races and Air Show National Championship, takes place every September in Reno-Stead. Airport and presented competition classes for biplanes, fighters and fighter aircraft from World War II, as well as demonstrations of historical and contemporary military aircraft. The 2022 Nevada Air Race Event was suspended after the crash that resulted in one fatality.
