In the course of his Wimbledon victory in the first round, Nick Kyrgios has acknowledged that he did spit at a fan. The Australian star seemed to spit towards a fan at the conclusion of the match after becoming enraged by the Wimbledon crowd’s behaviour during their five-set thriller against Britain’s Paul Jubb.

In a contentious news conference, Kyrgios acknowledged that he had spit on a fan and clarified his outburst regarding “racist remarks.” When asked if he spits at the conclusion of the game, Kyrgios responded: “Of a person disrespecting me among the others? Yes.” When pressed if it was intentional, Kyrgios revealed: “Yes. That is not something I would do to someone who was helping me.”
The 27-year-old, who defeated Jubb in a valiant struggle by winning 6-3 1-6 5-7 7-6 5-7, was upset with certain spectators and yelled at them throughout the match. He even targeted one fan during his on-court interview, saying: “Today’s audience was boisterous, and a few of them weren’t afraid to criticise me, so this one was for you. You’re aware of who you are.” At one point in the game, Kyrgios seemed to imply that he had experienced racial abuse after being overheard shouting racial slurs, but he later refuted that claim.
During the match, an enraged Kyrgios, who also hit the ball off Court 3, lashed out at a line judge and the umpire: “You can’t f***ing decide to talk to me in the middle of the point when I’m about to do a backhand.”
This certainly wasn’t the first time he lost his marbles and won’t be the last we see of him going bonkers as long as his run at the marquee event continues.
