According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, New York Yankees reliever, Michael King is anticipated to miss the remainder of the season after breaking his elbow during his outing on Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles. King, who was 27 years old, was having a breakthrough year for the Yankees. He had a 2.34 ERA (163 ERA+) and a 4.13 strikeout-to-walk ratio after 33 appearances as of Friday. King’s career stats include a 4.70 ERA (91 ERA+) and a 2.54 strikeout-to-walk ratio going into the season.

King will go on the disabled list among a handful of other important Yankees relievers. Without Zack Britton, Miguel Castro, Chad Green, and Ron Marinaccio, New York is already working without them. The Yankees have previously expressed their expectation that Britton will be able to make a full recovery from his Tommy John surgery by the end of August.

A minimum of one bullpen addition will probably be made by the Yankees and their senior executive Brian Cashman before the Major League Baseball trade deadline on August 2. Many relievers, including David Bednar of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Daniel Bard of the Colorado Rockies, Michael Fulmer of the Detroit Tigers, and former Yankee David Robertson, were included in CBS Sports’ list of the top 30 trade candidates (Chicago Cubs). Although it seems reasonable that they would at least check in, it is unknown whether the Yankees have expressed interest in any of those people or would do so.

The Yankees now have a regular-season record of 65-30 following their 7-6 victory on Friday. With that record, the American League East advantage increased to 12 games. Additionally, the Yankees have the best run differential in the majors.
