Marquez, 30, lost his balance as he was about to make a right turn and tumbled down the pavement. As he went off the track, Zarco, 32, who was just in front of him, was struck by his bike. And the crash knocked a blind-sighted Zarco off his bike, which miraculously snapped in two. Marquez quickly sprang to his feet and sprinted back towards the racecourse in an effort to collect his second bike. But as the meeting came to a finish, a yellow flag swiftly turned into a red one.
Zarco took a little longer to rise up, but when marshals arrived to assess his condition, he was eventually allowed to stand up and leave the track. One social media user responded to the accident by writing: “Incredible how they’re both walking after that!!!!” Another person said, “Horrible. But I’m happy to see them moving.”
“Fast-paced racing is fine, but safety should always come first and glad to see them both active and hopeful that they’ll be returning soon,” said a third. Another said, “Bloody hell, that looked ugly.” Only 15 points have been earned by six-time MotoGP world champion Marquez during the first six races of the 2023 campaign. With 88 points, Zarco is in fifth place and 43 points behind championship leader Francesco Bagnaia.
Fastest Friday time:

Official Sachsenring MotoGP records:
- Best lap: Francesco Bagnaia ITA Ducati 1m 19.765s (2022)

In a thrilling qualifying session for the German MotoGP at Sachsenring, Francesco Bagnaia wins the pole position. Marc Marquez has now been involved in three crashes for the day (and four for the weekend) as a result. With a number of circuits being invalidated as a result of the yellow flags that were raised after Johann Zarco and other late fallers, incumbent champion and championship leader Bagnaia took the pole position ahead of teammate Ducati rider Luca Marini (VR46) and KTM’s Jack Miller.
