India’s Women’s U19 defeats South Africa Women’s U19.
The first of a five-match T20 series between India’s Women’s U19 squad and South Africa was played on Tuesday (27 December). The Girls in Blue easily defeated their South African opponents, and their bowlers were the stars of the match. India earned their first series victory by holding South Africa to 83/8 after they batted first and scored 137/5. South Africa’s pursuit was derailed by three wickets each from Archana Devi and Shabnam Shakeel.

A Mankad appeal by Mannat Kashyap stole the show.
In the meantime, Mannat Kashyap stole the show after intentionally running one of the South African hitters. The event happened in the 17th over, when Jenna Evans and Jemma Botha were both batting. Kashyap observed Evans was well outside of her crease as she was about to deliver the baby. Therefore, following the rules, the bowler ran out the batsman by dislodging the bails.
Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh did not seem to be pleased.
Richa Ghosh, the wicketkeeper for India, did not appear pleased with her teammate’s move, and she immediately raised both hands and asked Evans to return to the crease. India went on to win the game easily and take a 1-0 series lead after five games.
Is doing Mankad fair enough?
Notably, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has instructed that if a team uses the mankad style of dismissal, it will be counted as a runout and has removed the phrase “against the spirit of the game” from the description. But whether it’s an acceptable method of dismissal is still up for debate.
The most recent discussion about this topic occurred when Deepti Sharma of India defeated Charlotte Edwards of England to determine a game’s outcome. While Indian cricket supporters and ex-players praised the player, arguing that she was perfectly within her rights to remove the English hitters, their opponents contended that it is still not the ideal way to end a game.
So, what’s your take on doing Mankad in cricket?
