IND vs PAK Match Highlights

  • Hardik Pandya won the Player of the Match with the following stats – 3/25 and 33 off 17
  • The victory marks India’s 7th win in T20Is against Pakistan.
  • Virat Kohli’s marked his 100th T20I in this match.
  • The recent victory is India’s 15th win against Pakistan in Asia Cup tournaments (13 ODIs, 2 T20Is).

India started slow, chasing a target of 148. On debut, Pakistan’s Naseem Shah bowled a magical first spell, removing KL Rahul for a golden duck.

India’s Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli managed a 49-run partnership off 46 balls, but Rohit struggled to keep up.

Rohit ultimately fell to Mohammad Nawaz with a sluggish 12 off 18. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, showed some glimpses of his old form, playing late shots in an overall good position. He managed to secure a 35-run knock off 34 balls before being dismissed for a poor shot to Mohammad Nawaz.

Suryakumar Yadav, who played at No 5 instead of the usual No 4, also did not get going. He managed only 18 off 18 before Naseem Shah cleaned up his stumps.

With 89/4 on the board in 14.2 overs, India stood in a difficult position, strongly in need of someone to step up. It was exactly at this moment that Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja stood up to give some standout performances.

While Jadeja secured one end, Hardik Pandya played his shots on the other side. Pandiya’s unexpected form was a sort of redemption for the all-rounder, following harsh criticisms around his inclusion in the T20 World Cup team.

Pandiya started slow, taking on Haris Rauf for 14 runs in the 19th. Eventually, as the match progressed, however, he finished with a big 6 to remain unbeaten on 33 off just 17 balls. Dinesh Karthik only played a ball.

Hard Gamble Plays Off

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first against arch-rivals Pakistan. The decision proved right as Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in the third over, removing the in-form Babar Azam.

Avesh Khan then dealt another blow, sending Fakhar Zaman back to reduce Pakistan to 42/2 in the powerplay. Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed stitched together a 45-run partnership off 38 balls.

Five of the wickets came from short deliveries as Indian pacers kept on chipping away with wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the best bowler of the lot, bagging 4/26. Hardik Pandya also bowled a terrific spell, scalping 3/25.

Arshdeep Singh (2/33) and Avesh Khan (1/19) were also amongst wickets as spinners did not have a great role to play. Mohd Rizwan top-scored for Pakistan with 43, while Shahnawaz Dahani played a good cameo of 16 off 6.
