Kyle Busch dominated the opening stage of the NASCAR All-Star race in his #18 Toyota Camry. After seeing out a stage two restart for Kyle Larson, Joe Gibbs racer Busch had secured the pole and was sitting comfortably in P1.
However, in the final laps of Texas’ stage two of four, a catastrophic multiple vehicle collision occurred, killing Busch, Ross Chastain, and Chase Elliott.

What caused the NASCAR All-Star race disaster that killed all three drivers?
Wreck in the Nascar All-Star Race
Busch slowed in the #18, reporting a blown tyre, as he approached the front stretch. Busch, who did not change tyres at the stage one break, was able to move to the inside and allow the pack to pass on the racing line.
Chastain, however, picked the wrong side as he moved to the left and collided with the side of the Gibbs machine. After colliding with Busch’s right-rear quarter panel, Chastain’s #1 Trackhouse flew into the air.
Fortunately, Chastain landed correctly, but he was severely injured and unable to handle his Camaro. Elliott in the #9 Hendrick machine was the unfortunate driver as the field rounded Turn 1. Chastain tagged Elliott, sending both of them flying against the outside wall.
When all of the automobiles came to a stop, the three drivers were able to jump out and were transported to the medical centre for an examination.
What Will Happen Now?
The race was red-flagged while NASCAR cleaned up the wreckage from the All-Star race on Lap 48. Chastain’s #1, Elliott’s #9, and Busch’s #18 were all retrieved and returned to the pit garage area for the crews to begin packing up.
Before the NASCAR All-Star accident, Busch had led all 47 laps, with Austin Cindric reclaiming the lead in the #2 Penske.
