More than 500 Nepali students on campus demonstrated after a third-year BTech student from Nepal was discovered dead in her dorm room. The video, which was allegedly taken inside the same hostel where the deceased lived, showed intense moments of heated discussions between teachers and students as well as a xenophobic remark that has gone viral amid protests and a number of controversial decisions made by the university administration.
The alleged video clip showed two KIIT University instructors having contentious conversations with Nepali pupils. At one point, the instructors said that the university’s expenditures on student welfare exceeded Nepal’s national budget and invited the students to leave wherever they felt safe.

“Do not insult the founder of this university. The man (owner) is feeding 40,000 students for free. Such an amount would even be more than your country’s entire budget,” the two KIIT teachers can be heard saying in the clip. The two teachers making the racist remarks at the Nepali students have now been identified as Associate Professor Manjusha Pandey and Jayanti Nath, Joint Director Girls’ Hostels and Students Affairs.
When the university sent a letter this morning requesting that all Nepali students leave the campus as soon as possible, the situation got even worse. According to other accounts, buses carrying a number of Nepali students were told to head home, but they were not given tickets or lodging when they left for the Cuttack railway station.
This is a conversation between the 21-year-old girl who committed suicide in KIIT and her boyfriend, who allegedly traumatised her to take such a drastic step.

As the case gains significant attention, a number of students persist in their demonstrations.
DCP Pinak Mishra of Bhubaneswar added that he assessed the issue and complied with all of the students’ requests, including gathering the necessary proof. He stated that a post-mortem report is anticipated.
Father of the deceased revealed the truth
The dead was identified as Nepalese national, age 21 third year computer engineering B.Tech student Prakriti Lamsal. According to the Registrar, she was a third-year B-Tech student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT).
Advik Srivastava, her ex-boyfriend was arrested just hours after a third-year B.Tech student was discovered dead at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University dorm campus in Bhubaneswar.
Advik Srivastava, a mechanical engineering student at the same university, was accused by the deceased girl’s classmates and acquaintances of torturing her physically and psychologically during the course of their three-year relationship.
An audio clip allegedly featuring a conversation between Advik and Prakriti has surfaced on social media and gone viral and in the clip, a young man was heard abusing and harassing a girl.

The father of the deceased Nepali student at KIIT University, Sunil Lamsal, said that his daughter committed suicide as a result of emotional blackmail and harassment. He stated that a post-mortem report is anticipated shortly and that an investigation is now in progress.
He added that the family is receiving assistance from the university administration and police.
