Karan Sangwan, who has an L.L.M. in Criminal Laws, was thinking about the new bill that the BJP-led union government had just put before the Lok Sabha. This bill is meant to replace the IPC, the CrPC, and the Indian Evidence Act, which were made by the British. Sangwan said that he was sad because all of the notes he had made about criminal law were now out of date.

In the video, an emotional Karan Sangwan mentions, “I’m torn between laughter and tears, considering the numerous bare acts, caseloads, and notes I’ve accumulated over time. This is a collective effort, and it affects all of us. Remember, you too have a role in this.”
Karan Sangwan continues, “Always remember to vote for someone educated, so you don’t find yourself in such a predicament again. Choose individuals who are knowledgeable and can comprehend complex issues. Avoid those who are solely fixated on changing names. Make your choices wisely.”
Social media reactions to remarks by Karan Sangwan
Karan Sangwan didn’t name anyone by name, but many people on social media saw similarities between what he said and what Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP, said recently about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many people said that Sangwan used education as a cover to spread political rhetoric.
One user commented, “Karan Sangwan, a faculty member of @unacademy, seems to be indirectly suggesting not to vote for BJP. Is this the educational revolution Roman Saini speaks of?” referencing one of Unacademy’s co-founders.
Another user, apparently affiliated with the BJP, expressed, “Unacademy’s anti-Modi stance is evident… They’re promoting hatred for Modi ji in the name of education. If you oppose PM Modi, do so openly. Don’t hide behind education to push your agenda.”
Awaiting Unacademy’s response
As the controversy continues to gain momentum, Unacademy has yet to release an official statement addressing the issue.
