Rohit Sharma claimed that Kapil Dev is unaware of what goes on in the team when defending Virat Kohli
In the T20 matches he has played so far during the England series, Kohli has struggled, scoring just 12 runs (1 and 11) after hitting just 31 runs during the series’ fifth lost Test match.
Following India’s 2-1 T20I victory against the hosts England, Indian captain Rohit Sharma defended Virat Kohli, stating he doesn’t care what other experts have to say about Kohli’s recent performance. At the post-game press conference, the 35-year-old captain told the media that Kapil Dev’s recent comments about bringing in an in-form player didn’t matter much because he didn’t know what went on inside the team.

“There is a thought process involved in selecting the team, and there is a decent discussion that goes on behind the scenes that Kapil Dev is unaware of. We support the players and give them a run. What happens inside is what matters to us; what happens outside doesn’t “stated Sharma.
After scoring just 31 runs during the lost fifth Test match at Edgbaston, Kohli went through a rough patch during the England series, scoring just 12 runs (1 and 11) in the T20 matches he has played so far. In addition, Kohli had a lacklustre IPL 2022, and his most recent century wasn’t until 2019.
Kohli’s latest stumble, according to Sharma, won’t let him to forget everything he has done for the team over the years.
“I’m not familiar with the experts who weigh in on players’ spots. We support players recognising their talent; if someone has excelled for a decade, we cannot just look at recent events,” explained he.
The quality of a quality cricketer never diminishes, according to Rohit, who also asked everyone to remember this before passing judgement on a player. However, with Kohli now well out of form for three years, it remains to be seen how long the BCCI can continue throwing its weight behind a player who is known to crumble when the stakes are elevated.
