His college basketball career began with the Arizona State Sun Devils, where he was honoured as a consensus All-American and the Pac-10’s Player of the Year in 2009. The Oklahoma City Thunder used the third overall pick on Harden at the 2009 NBA draught. He led the Thunder to the 2012 NBA Finals, where they were swept by the eventual champion Miami Heat. That season, he was voted NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

While playing for the Rockets, he was selected to the NBA All-Star squad eight times in a row and to the All-NBA team seven times, including six first-team nods. Harden was dealt to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a four-team deal prior to the 2020-21 season. While playing for the Nets, he received his ninth and tenth All-Star nods. Harden was recognised as one of the NBA’s all-time greats in October 2021 when he was selected for the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
